On a recent episode of the WTF! Podcast, Marc Maron talks to actor Matt Damon who at one points tells a great story about working with Jack Nicholson on the film Departed. I was fascinated as Damon describes how Nicholson took a simple one-page scene and added a tremendous amount of character development, without putting any stress on the cast, crew, or budget of the film.
Efficiency of storytelling is something that interests me and I found the process of how a great actor worked within strict personal guidelines to improve what otherwise could have been a throwaway part of the film. It's what makes great storytellers, and essentially that is what an actor, director, comic book artist, or any artist really is.
